One of the biggest pilgrimages in the United States, the Pilgrimage to Sanctuario de Chimayo is at its pinnacle today. With thousands people walking on foot for sometimes over 100′s of miles, it is truly a challenge for mind, body, and spirit.

I traveled the path (in a car), the “High Road to Taos” that so many people journey every year, to find out why people take on this challenge and what keeps them going. The perspective I gained from talking to the “pilgrims” has definitely help shape my definition of persistence and faith. I met some great friends along the way all with amazing stories.

These folks, Seth and Sandy, have been walking from Sky City for over 6 days. Just so you know that’s approx 145 miles. When I asked them what kept them going, their response was, “The prayers of my people”.

And off they went on their journey.

When I got to the church in Chimayo, I was amazed at the sense of history felt throughout the grounds. To know that something has been there since the 1800′s if not before, in the middle of this beautiful landscape, made me feel like I was witnessing history. Such a great experience.

An artist was doing a live painting of the church, right in time for Easter.

I also got to meet the priest inside of the sanctuary who educated me on the history of the church.

When I left the Church their were many more people walking on the road, all making the grand journey to Chimayo.

Safe journeys to all those making the pilgrimage today and thank you to all the people I met along the way.
