Albuquerque Police will deliver some much need relief to a New Mexico town in the midst of a serious water crisis. Water collected from an APD water drive is headed for Magdalena, which is in the throes of a water emergency. The town’s water well went dry weeks ago and the town has been struggling to get water to its residents and businesses. The town has had tankers ship water in it’s being delivered from many different parts of the state. If you are wanting to help out Magdalena, the graphic arts station in Los Lunas is still taking water donations.
The prize for perfect attendance has been kicked up a few notches. An Eldorado high school student won a new car for making it to school everyday. The Albuquerque new car and truck dealers association presented eleventh-grader, Allante Vanderslice, with a Mazda 3. 58 students in grades 10 through 12 from APS and another 7 from Rio Rancho qualified for the drawing by achieving perfect attendance during the last school year. And just like they had to do every day at school, students had to be present for the drawing in order to win the new set of wheels.
Another New Mexico High School is being recognized as one of the best in the nation. Newsweek Magazine ranked Los Alamos High School at 780-th in the country … Which isn’t bad considering there are nearly 37,000 high schools in the United States. Newsweek chose schools they feel are most effective in turning out college ready graduates. They based the ranking on college acceptance rates, SAT and ACT test scores … And the percentage of students enrolled in advanced placement courses.
