In the Community

Some of New Mexico’s state legislators are calling for an emergency extraordinary session—because they say what’s happening to behavioral health providers and their patients is so bad and something has  to be done about it. The state froze payments to 15 of the state’s largest mental health providers after an audit showed signs of fraud. The goal of the session would be to pass a bill that would restore funding to the non-profits until they had a chance to answer the findings in the audit.

Change is afoot – in Santa Fe for this year’s torching of Zozobra ticket prices are half what they were slashed from  20 bucks to ten for adults. There’s a $5 shuttle ride to the event being offered – and – more entrances will be open to cut down on lines. Organizers  are making the changes because attendance at last year’s burning of old man gloom… was  downright gloomy. Event organizers are taking online submissions from around the world– printing them out and stuffing them in old man gloom. This year is the 89th burning of Zozobro – and he’s the tallest he’s ever been – fifty-feet, two-inches tall. Old man gloom gets torched  Thursday evening in Santa Fe’s  Fort Marcy Park.
