There are many firsts in the life of a baby, but when that baby is a nearly 1,600 pound rhinoceros, milestones happen weekly. That has certainly been the case for Chopper, he is the baby rhino in question at the Albuquerque Zoo and he celebrated his birthday on Wednesday this week. David Romero gives us a look at what a year it’s been for Chopper.

There are so many great trails and wonderful places to get healthy and some of you may not know is that Mayor R.J. Berry is helping us discover them with his initiative “Step It Up Albuquerque.” Here with me now to talk about it is initiative coordinator Leslie Munoz with the city of Albuquerque and Shawn Gale from Defined Fitness.

The holidays can be stressful for not only us parents, but also for the kids. When they’re thrown into the mix of traveling, visits from relatives and holiday events all on top of their normal school work and activities, it’s a miracle they have the energy left to behave at all! Here to help moms get good holiday behavior from the kids, is licensed marriage and family therapist Amanda Davison.

Ballroom dancing is a partnered-dance performed by a couple and usually sparks the interest of adults, but one local dance studio has turned the art of ballroom dancing into a fun activity for the younger age group. Here with me now to talk about it is the owner of CSP Dance Studios, Pattie Smith, dance instructor, Chris Quintana and a student Cassidy Sweet.

It’s all celebrations at the Albuquerque Zoo with the recent birthday of Chopper the rhinoceros and of course the birth of Jazmine the elephant. To give little Jazzy as she’s sometimes called a nice welcome to the zoo and to also give her mom a nice pat on the back for bringing her into the world, zoo keepers are having a baby shower this weekend.

The Toys for Tots program kicks off Friday. The U.S. Marines are holding a toy drive for you to donate toys that they’ll be giving to needy families this Christmas. The toy drive starts at 10 o’clock Friday morning and runs until 4 p.m. Bring an unwrapped toy to the Toys R Us on Indian School Road just off of Louisiana in northeast Albuquerque.

Parents worry constantly about how to protect their children from the bad folks out there, but many overlook one of the biggest threats to their children’s safety and well-being their own home. Elizabeth Alvarez learned how to properly baby proof her home with Chris Mora, the owner of “Baby Safe Homes in New Mexico.”

Right now there are nearly 26-million Americans living with diabetes. November is Diabetes Awareness Month and JDRF’s mission is to discover, develop and deliver advances that cure, better treat and prevent Type 1 Diabetes. Here with me now is Elizabeth Madden, branch manager for JDRF.

If you’re looking for something fun for the whole family to do Saturday then how does live music, bacon eating contests along with games and activates sound?! These will all be happening at Bacon Fest! Here with me now is Dean Strober with Blue River Productions.
