Coming up tomorrow is a national event called Neighborhood Toy Store Day. It’s not only a good chance for families to get a little jump on the holiday season on what to get for their little ones, but find out about the toys as well. There are educational toys out there you may not be aware of which can provide your child with hours of fun while at the same time stimulating their brains. David romero is live at “Out of The Blue – A Toy Shop” in northwest Albuquerque with more.
November 11th is quickly approaching and it’s a very important day to honor American veterans, for their dedication and loyal service to our country. One way to celebrate Veterans Day is by checking out the 13th annual Veterans Day Parade Monday morning. Here with me now to talk about it is Geary McConnell who is a veteran.
Plenty of kids here in Albuquerque are getting some great experience as young actors. They’re cast in some fun plays and musicals, all thanks to New Mexico Young Actors, a drama school for kids ages nine through 19. Here with me now is Rick Nikerson, along with some actors from NMYA’s latest play Hansel and Gretel, Hanna, Cash and Sabina.
The number of premature births is declining here in New Mexico. The March of Dimes recently released new data that showed the premature birth rate has gone down. Doctor Abraham Lichtmacher, chief of women’s services at Lovelace Health System is here to talk to us about this and why this is so significant to our community.
There is a new pop group out of Los Angeles making girls swoon over their lyrics and dance moves, but there’s more to these guys than just talent. They’re taking a stand against bullying. I’m talking about the band “After Romeo.” Let’s first talk about the Bully Proof Tour.
The holiday shopping season is quickly coming up and many will find themselves scrambling to find the perfect gifts to buy for friends and loved ones. So before you make your way to the big box stores to find those gifts, why not check out a local store? David Romero found a unique spot with gifts for the smallest recipients in mind.
The National Dance Institute of New Mexico is founded with the knowledge that the arts have a unique and powerful way of engaging and motivating kids! They are celebrating 20 years! Here with me now is Gretchen Williams, Albuquerque director of development for NDI and an NDI student, Quino King.
We’re always hearing about different health statistics, but here are some specifically about pancreatic cancer that are pretty alarming. Only six percent of people who get it survive. Right now, it’s the fourth largest cancer killer in the U.S. and in as little as two years it could be the second. But you can help change those statistics now during National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Here with me now is Nancy Murphy Bowles with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and pancreatic cancer survivor Pam Schneider.
Veterans Day is on Monday a way to honor those who have served our country, but today you have a chance to support our veterans who happen to be artists!
Starting at 6 o’clock tonight you can enjoy art ranging from photography to painting created by veterans and those who have served in the National Guard. The event will be held at the fine arts building at the New Mexico Expo.
It’s free and goes on through November 23rd.
We would like to wish Charles “Chaz” Alonen a very happy birthday. He’s turning 30-years-old today.
