Some of the hottest toys for Christmas are actually educational, as David Romero found out when he took a tour of Bigglesnorts Toy Store in northeast Albuquerque. David then drops by for the latest in headgear and more at Larry’s Hats and Jewelry in Nob Hill.
Bruce Shaffer helped organize the Show and Glow, which combines a first-class car show with a balloon glow as a benefit for Danny Lovato, a balloon crewman severely injured in a collision with a power line during last month’s Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The free event is Saturday at Balloon Fiesta Park with the car show from noon to 5 p.m. followed by the balloon glow.
Fall is a time for celebrating the flocks of sandhill cranes that winter here, and Jodi Hedderig, who manages the city’s Open Space Visitor Center, is here to talk about the annual Return of the Sandhill Crane Celebration this weekend. Joining her is Marilyn Morain, a volunteer with Wildlife Rescue, who is accompanied by the great horned owl.
The Weems Artfest has grown into a major event over the years, and two well-known artists–Dan Stouffer and B.C. Nowlin–are here to tell folks what to expect from the 31st annual event.

A pair of 2 KASA This Morning viewers went to the Museum of Natural History and Science last night to watch a show at the planetarium after Rodger Rushing told Joanna Michnovicz he’d been given tickets by a friend. It was quite a show, too, ending with a custom animation of pictures beginning with their first date a year and a half ago and ending with the message “Will you marry me?” Joanna said yes.
Fitness and fundraising go together next month with the 12-Hour Indoor Cyclethon at Albuquerque’s Ryde Shack. Coordinator Matt Gordon has the details on the Dec. 14 event.
When a nonprofit reduces its electric bill, it has more money to focus on its mission. PNM’s “Reduce Your Use” grant program can play a role as Ryan Baca of PNM and Executive Director Peter Rinn of Project Share explain.
Here’s something unique for the kids happening this afternoon: The Santa Fe Children’s Museum is hosting Cornelius Hour where kids can watch Cornelius the corn snake eat his weekly meal. Kids also can draw pictures and learn some new facts. The free event for kids under 16 begins at 5 p.m. Other activities happening from 4-7 p.m. also are free.
