New Mexico’s a lucky place to be right now, folks

Although our week ends on Friday the 13th, we might be the luckiest state in the union with all the great things happening right now.

First off, The New Mexico Museum of Art is the ONLY museum in the United States fortunate enough to get Renaissance to Goya, a touring exhibition from the British Museum featuring drawings and prints from renowned Spanish artists.  Museum curator Mary Kershaw came to the studio this morning sharing the story of how our museum was bestowed this honor, what the show features and how New Mexicans can see the show for FREE this weekend.

The Moscow Ballet is in town this evening for their touring production of The Russian Nutcracker Ballet.  While featuring the world-renowned company, the show will incorporate 60 kids from New Mexico who will be performing in the ballet.  We spoke with prima ballerina Ekaterina Uksusnikova and Renee Antoinette’s School of Dance owner (and host to the company) Renee Baca-Chavez about the show and the experience of training the next generation of ballet dancers in this momentous production.  One night only at the Kiva Auditorium, folks!

Also in town (and for one more performance tonight), is American Idiot.  The Tony-winning musical is based on the groundbreaking album of the same name by Green Day.  Edgy, explosive, vibrant and timely, the show has toured the nation and stops in at Popejoy for two performances.  We spoke Mariah McFarlaine about her role in the show and what audiences can expect from the show.  Tickets are selling fast and this one is sure to sell out.

And if you’re a skier, Friday is your lucky day!  Angel Fire Resort is opening its doors to what promises to be a killer season.  New runs, new terrain and lifts, new program for beginning skiers and tot skiers and tons of attractions for non-skiers (like myself) make the Resort a premier destination this holiday season.  Just a couple short hours north of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, so get your reservations squared away and hit those slopes!

Tomorrow on Style, we’ll be talking with Cate Edwards, daughter of former presidential candidate John Edwards, about coping with loved ones dealing with advanced breast cancer.  Unfortunately, this is a topic many of us have faced, so I hope you can tune in.
