On 2 KASA This Morning

It’s always a fun family tradition to set up the Christmas tree, but it’s also the biggest hassle to take it down and get rid of it. There’s a way that you can turn that tree into mulch and help get it to help the environment. David Romero is live with a crew from PNM who are making that happen.

You may have seen a big van carrying pets available for adoption. Desiree Cawley and Mary Soto from Animal Welfare talk about an off-site adoption called Lucky Paws Van on the Move, where they bring available pets for adoption to your community.

Andrea Schulte, owner of the New Mexico Pie Company, is back with us to show us how to make a green chili bacon quiche!

Each year the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to exceptional teachers in the Albuquerque Public Schools District. This year there were 87 nominated from 46 different schools, but only five APS teachers were named winners. Two winners, Eric Strauss and Sherry Lober, join us with some of their students. They not only won this year, but also were the first teachers at Albuquerque High School to ever win.

Between Thanksgiving and New Years is the biggest concentration of DWI crashes, fatalities and injuries. According to the National Department of Transportation, about one-third of all drivers arrested or convicted of drunk driving are repeat offenders. Here with me now is Ben Lewinger, state executive director of MADD New Mexico.

What are you doing to ring in the New Year? How about you ring in 2014 at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science? Here to tell us more is Randall Gann, public information officer at the museum.

Today we are doing a project that son is going to love to do! Joining us is Michelle Watkins, flight director for the Challenger Learning Center New Mexico.

Deal of the Day

For a very limited time you can get a deal on a 30-minute “high performance glider flight” from Sundance Aviation. A small plane lifts gliders into the air before releasing them to sail over the New Mexico desert and then passengers ride the gliders through thermal-air columns.

For $89.99 you can get a 30-minute flight. That’s a $151 value.
