Sorry Broncos!February 3rd, 2014 at 11:17 am by chadbrummett under 2 KASA Style
It is a sad day for many in New Mexico… specifically those sporting orange and blue. On the other hand, if you’re of the Seattle persuasion, you’re in ecstasy as your team celebrates its first Big Game victory. Either way, according to Esparza Advertising, the real winners were the advertisers… especially in the Land of Enchantment.
According to overnight numbers, three out of four households were tuned in to the showdown between the Broncos and Seahawks, with most viewers staying tuned during commercial breaks and even through the blow-out’s fourth quarter. The big themes this year were family, national pride and a somewhat more serious tone. It seems to have resonated with viewers, but the big question will be whether that turns in to real dollars for these companies, many of which spent upwards of $10 million per campaign (that’s more than many movies are produced with).
The dominant spot seems to have been Budweiser’s Puppy Love, depicting an indelible bond between a golden retriever pup and a Clydesdale. Other winners were the cringe-worthy Doritos hit featuring a comically-crude “finger cleaner”… um, yeah… ’nuff said on that one.
From this blogger’s perspective, the commercials fell short this year. Don’t get me wrong, many were very strong, intelligent and funny. However, overall the batch lacked cohesiveness, relevance to their product… or were just downright weird (the Silverado commercial, anyone???)
Anyway, another one in the books. A milestone for the Seahawks and a night Denver would rather forget. As a Cowboy fan, I share this piece of advice, my wounded Bronco fans… “there’s always next season”… only 213 days until kick-off!
